About Us

Story of Maly Thai

Our story begins far from the kitchen you’re sitting in today.

I came to the United States in 1987 with little more than determination and the hope of building a better life. Like many immigrants, I began with factory work, learning the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. Along the way, I built a family I’m incredibly proud of, raising three healthy children who continue to inspire everything I do.

My journey into the restaurant world began years later, after spending nearly a decade working in hibachi kitchens. Those years taught me not only cooking skills, but also the importance of hospitality—how food brings people together and creates lasting memories.

In 2016, I took a leap of faith and opened my first Thai restaurant in Algonquin. During that time, Vino played an important role in my journey, offering guidance, sharing advice, and helping me navigate the challenges of opening and running a restaurant. His experience and generosity shaped the way I approached both food and service, and I proudly adopted his philosophy: treat every guest like family, serve honest food, and build trust through consistency and care.

The success of my first restaurant led me to help manage Vino Thai, where I continued to learn from his approach and deepen my connection with the community. When Vino eventually retired, he entrusted the care of his customers to me—a responsibility I accepted with deep respect and gratitude.

Today, I continue his legacy while also pursuing a goal that means a great deal to me: empowering the Southeast Asian community throughout the Chicagoland area. Through opportunity, mentorship, and representation, I hope our restaurant can be a place that uplifts others and opens doors, just as others once did for me.

Our restaurant is more than a business—it is the result of decades of hard work, family values, mentorship, and a deep love for Thai cuisine. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and be part of your community.
